After the foundation of Children Of Bodom back in 1993 in Espoo, Finland, the band built a solid reputation as one of the best metal acts worldwide. The names refers back to the notorious Lake Bodom murders in 1960. The band, originally named “Inearthed” (and having released a couple of demos using this name) is surely capable of kicking straight in the face when needed, just as any other metal band. But what differs Children Of Bodom from the rest is the way in which they present melodic passages all of a sudden, or catchy coruses to an inaccessible degree of musicality. This is the reason for which singer / guitarist Alexi “Wildchild” Laiho and his combatants decorate the covers of so many music magazines around the world.
Since their foundation, Children Of Bodom have released seven full length albums: Something Wild (1997, info | shop), Hatebreeder (1999, info | shop), Follow the Reaper (2000, info | shop), Hate Crew Deathroll (2003, info | shop), Are You Dead Yet? (2005, info | shop), Blooddrunk (2008, info | shop), an album with the favourite cover versions made by the band (the 2009’s Skeletons in the Closet, info | shop), 2011 came Reckless Relentless Forever (info | shop) and the recent best of album Holiday At Lake Bodom - 15 Years Of Wasted Youth (shop).
With every subsequent album, the band managed to improve and perfection their unique sound. Thus, they build a pillar in the metal pantheon.
They are long known for their light hearted musical principle of operation and for their grave work ethos rather than a just-for-fun-attitude, which is why they could position within the front lines of the world’s finest metal bands.
Laiho was elected as the "best metal guitarists" by the readers of Guitar World , big names such as Kirk Hammett of Metallica referring to the courts. No wonder that Children Of Bodom have been then described by the New York Times as "technically brilliant" and called "one of the most talented metal bands of our time" by the contemporary media conglomerate VICE. That's why popular COB songs like "Was It Worth It?", "Living Dead Beat", "Blooddrunk" and "If You Want Peace ... Prepare for War" appear in he smash hit video game series Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock.
2013 returned the Hate Crew to Nuclear Blast with "Halo Of Blood" (Info | Shop), the 8th studio album of their career. Recorded in the very own studio of the band in Helsinki and in the Petrax Studios in Hollola alongside producer Peter Tägtgren, "Halo Of Blood" catches noticeablay both melodiousness and rudeness of their early works, clothes them with a contemporary sound robe while exploring new musical territories by presenting for instance the slowest and the fastest song of their career at the same time.
"I Worship Chaos" (Info | Shop) will be released in October 2015. Back to the Danger Johnny Studios, the new album has been produced by COB and Mikko Karmila, then mixed and mastered at the Finnvox Studios in Helsinki, Finland. Afterwards, the band will grab the new disc in their luggage on a worldwide trip.
It's not only the pure precision, but also a crazy devotion to metal that makes Children Of Bodom such an outstanding band. Besides Laiho, the band gathers Roope Latvala (guitar), Jaska Raatikainen (drums), Henkka Seppälä (bass) and Janne Warman (keyboards).
