A sad piece of news for the entire metal world: At The Gates frontman Tomas “Tompa” Lindberg has passed away at the age of 52.
Back in August, Lindberg and the band announced in a statement that he had been diagnosed with adenoid cystic carcinoma—a rare form of oral cancer—in December 2023. In that very statement, he asked for understanding that he "don’t want not make a big thing about it all" and he would not give any interviews about the status of his cancer.
He went on to write:
“I hope you all are well. Take care of yourselves, your loved ones, and the time you have on this earth.”
Despite his serious illness, he still recorded the vocal parts for the new At The Gates album, which Lindberg wrote together with Jonas and Anders Björler.
We wish the band and his family a lot of strength during this difficult time.
