Nuclear Blast Entertainment recently announced the worldwide signing of seminal psychedelic rock trio, EARTHLESS! The band has just finished recording their new album with Dave Catching (EAGLES OF DEATH METAL) at Rancho de la Luna in Joshua Tree, CA and will release their 4th full-length studio album in early 2018! Today, the Roadburn Festival announces to welcome back the benevolent cosmic instrumentalist overlords, EARTHLESS, in 2018! EARTHLESS will perform three sets as Roadburn's Artist in Residence, including some incredibly special, Roadburn-exclusive jams.
It’s been a decade since the San Diego three-piece of guitarist Isaiah Mitchell, bassist Mike Eginton and drummer Mario Rubalcaba set a standard for epic with the performance that became their landmark »Live at Roadburn« 2LP in 2008. They’d return in 2010 –the year of the volcano– and deliver two more stunning sets to the Roadburning faithful, filling in for others forced to cancel and forever cementing the place in Roadburn's hearts they’d underpin with the 'EARTHLESS Meets Heavy Blanket' Heavy Jam in 2014.
Since then, EARTHLESS have become the standard-bearers of a heavy psychedelic boom in California, inspiring countless acts around them and releasing show-stopping offerings like 2013’s »From the Ages« full-length and the »Acid Crusher/Mount Swan« split with acolytes HARSH TOKE.
In serving as Artist in Residence, EARTHLESS follow in the footsteps of CIRCLE, Justin K. Broadrick, THE HEADS and GNOD, among others. They will take the stage three times. For the first set, they’ll play in their standard three-piece incarnation, showcasing material from their upcoming 2018 album and Nuclear Blast debut. For Roadburners, this will be a first chance to get to hear new EARTHLESS songs live and fans probably can’t wait to find out what they’ve come up with for their long-awaited next record.
The second set unites EARTHLESS with progressive rock and improvisational legend Damo Suzuki. Known best of course for the groundbreaking krautrock he produced with CAN on records »Soundtracks« and »Tago Mago«, Damo has collaborated with countless artists over the years including BLACK BOMBAIM, ØRESUND SPACE COLLECTIVE and more, and his joining mind energies with EARTHLESS is bound to be an occurrence of galaxy-shaking significance.
If that’s not enough, EARTHLESS will also take part in an ‘East Meets West’ psych jam with other members of the San Diego scene and members of KIKAGAKU MOYO from Japan! This will be part of a ‘San Diego Takeover’ at Roadburn 2018 involving not only EARTHLESS but the likes of JOY, HARSH TOKE, SACRI MONTI and PETYR, who’ll not only be ruling the roost at the 013 venue, but also hitting the skate park in town on Friday and Saturday to bring the inimitable vibe of the West Coast to life in Tilburg!

Roadburn 2018 takes place at the 013 venue Tilburg, the Netherlands between 19-22 April. Already announced artists include GODSPEED YOU! BLACK EMPEROR, CULT OF LUNA and Julie Christmas, CONVERGE, WEEDEATER and HUGGSJA (a special collaboration between Einar Selvik and Ivar Bjørnson).
