Mit seinem zweiten Soloalbum,"Am Ende der Sonne", gelang Farin Urlaub im Frühjahr 2005 auf Anhieb der Sprung an die Spitze der Charts. Dieses Kunststück dürfte er nun mit dem ersten Livealbum seines Racing Teams wiederholen. Wer nach nur zwei Studioplatten ein Livealbum einspielt, muss dafür ebenso gute wie plausible Gründe haben. Farin Urlaub, laut Harald Schmidts Faktotum Manuel Andrack einer der größten deutschen Lyriker der Gegenwart, hat welche. Er wollte wissen, wie sich die Songs im Kontext einer Band verändern würden, da er auf seinen Soloalben fast alles im Alleingang eingespielt hatte. Die neue Marschrichtung bringt er selbst treffend auf den Punkt: "Farin Urlaub solo war gestern, das Farin Urlaub Racing Team ist die Zukunft. Anstatt mir im Studio alleine Tage und Nächte um die Ohren zu schlagen, wird demnächst die gesamte Band von mir gequält." Bis es allerdings so weit ist, hat er mit seiner neuen, elfköpfigen Truppe im vergangenen Jahr sechs Konzerte in fünf Städten mitgeschnitten und aus den besten Aufnahmen das "Livealbum Of Death" destilliert. Und in der Tat klingen die neuen, zum Teil runderneuerten Versionen der Songs seiner beiden Soloalben "Endlich Urlaub" (2001) und "Am Ende der Sonne" (2005) sehr viel dynamischer und vitaler, nicht zuletzt dank der beiden Saxophonisten Hans-Jörg "Fischi" Fischer und Peter "Quitte" Quintern sowie des Trompeters Reinhard "Hardy" Appich und des Posaunisten Robert "Rob" Solomon Göhring. Ein Track wie "OK" entwickelt in dieser Besetzung eine ganz andere Durchschlagskraft als noch auf "Endlich Urlaub". Dass alle Beteiligten bei den Aufnahmen Spaß hatten, wird gleich vom ersten Song an - "Mehr" - deutlich. Farin Urlaub erweist sich erneut als begnadeter Entertainer, der das Publikum ebenso wie seine Band im Griff hat. Seine Mannen treibt er zu immer neuen Höchstleistungen an - zum Beispiel im euphorisch überdrehten Stück "Unter Wasser" und im nicht weniger ungestümen "Wo ist das Problem?".
